Gene Edwards (1932- )

Gene Edwards was born in Texas in 1932, the son of an oilfield “roughneck.” He graduated from Southwestern Seminary in 1954. After spending several years as a Baptist minister, he left the pastorate to become an evangelist. In the early 1960’s, he began meeting with a small group in Tyler, Texas and was significantly influenced by the thoughts of the Chinese evangelist, Watchman Nee and the house church movement. He has continued working with house churches and has written over 30 books, emphasizing a personal relationship with God, house or neighborhood churches, and a narrative interpretation of the New Testament.
