My Utmost for His Highest is a daily devotional with uncommon depth. Oswald Chambers lived a very short life but possessed a profound revelation of Christ.

About the Book

Though I rarely care for books in the form of daily devotionals, My Utmost for His Highest is a notable exception.  Oswald Chambers lived with an intensity for God that is rarely witnessed.  He died of acute appendicitis while serving as a YMCA Chaplain in Egypt during WW I.  The story is told how a young British soldier in North Africa told him, “I hate religious people.” Chambers answered, “I do too.”  Though this book was published after his death, fortunately his wife had taken down nearly all his teachings and sermons in short-hand.  We are all the beneficiaries of a life lived intensely for the propagation of the Gospel.  “But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.” (I Corinthians 14:3). In this sense, the words of this book are truly prophetic.

“Have you been asking God what He is going to do? He will never tell you. God does not tell you what He is going to do; He reveals to you Who He is.”

About the Author
Oswald Chambers (1874-1917)

Oswald Chambers was born in Scotland in 1874. He died at age 43, never attaining significant notoriety. By that time, he had published three books and was appreciated by moderate groups of people in the U.S. and Britain for his profound depths of insight. Although he died very young, his wife took short-hand at more than 250 words per minute and had carefully transcribed most of his bible teaching and sermons. His devotional, "My Utmost for His Highest" was published seven years following his death.
